Trip Leader Training is a 4 day wilderness course covering:
Route Selection, Equipment, Clothing, Nutrition, Hygiene, Navigation, Safety & Security, Weather, Site Selection, Bivouac, Campfire Cooking, Communication, Leadership, Personal Growth and Development, Leave No Trace and Ultra Light vs. Ultra Prepared.
The Trip Leader course was influenced by our personal experience and training, the opinions and experiences of Directors of Outdoor Education, as well as The Backpacker’s Field Manual by Rick Curtis, Director of Outdoor Action at Princeton University.
In addition to wilderness skills training, the five areas of development that we specifically work towards are: Self Awareness, Self Regulation, Motivation, Empathy and Social Skills.
Students spend one day in camp and three days in the field, and they are challenged mentally, physically and emotionally. Through new learning and experience they develop in each of these key areas. Personal time is included in each day’s schedule, as are time blocks for meals, hygiene and rest.
